TAROT CARD READING
Explained ...
(by Lyn Shea)
Whatever the misconceptions about tarot card reading it continues
to grow in popularity. Its not a new phenomena - it began in the thirteenth
century in various parts of Europe as a way of encoding and preserving
the ancient wisdoms from the onslaught of Christianity and its suppressions
waged against other philosophies and creeds.
Tarot card reading is one of the oldest forms of scrying (seeing via
symbols). The arcana (single cards) in tarot card reading form a language
which traces the development of human life on earth through the various
stages of growth, conflict and choice etc.
The way the cards are illustrated, and there are 78 of them, may vary
depending on the artist but the code, or meaning, behind the symbolism
does not vary, because the arcanum are numbered. beginning with 'The
Fool' at 0 and ending with 'The World' at 21.
Numbers and mathematical systems underpin the solar system; they are
indispensable in the understanding of cosmology and the universe. Astrology,
numerology and certain other forms of divination are closely linked
at source to tarot card reading.
Some people use tarot cards to meditate - this is done by selecting
a card and then reflecting deeply about the symbol shown, keeping it
in the mind's eye and seeing what thoughts are revealed by it, or what
feelings and memories are released. Full-on tarot card reading is probably
a little different from this, but still many people own tarot decks
and simply like to look at the cards one by one or use them as a symbol
or guide. At Cartouche we have two spreads based employing that technique,
One Card Solution and Daily Reflection. They allow an instant stock-take
of certain passing issues or nudge the mind away from the negative influences
in readiness for the days' agenda.
Tarot card reading is an art form as well as a science, because the
reader analysing the spread must use their own insight and clairvoyance
to 'open up' the themes shown by the cards. If this were not the case,
the readings would be one dimensional, flat and robotic. The hallmark
of a good tarot card reading is when the information is taking on a
meaning for you which is undeniable at a personal level, in the instinctive
nature or the deeper psyche where truth lies.
Tarot card reading is not a guessing game on the part of the reader
- the reader can only go as deeply as the recipient is prepared to go
- otherwise it feels like an attack or an intrusion on the privacy of
the enquirer.
The cards may mean more than one thing, and unless the recipient of
the reading is ready to explore their personal feelings and enter into
further discovery as the reading evolves then there are limited or weakened
results.
In personal sittings the meaning of the reading may change in the way
its perceived, both to the reader and to the recipient, as more and
more clarity is gained. Tarot card reading is not simply depicting the
future, its influencing it. Just as what you think, your changes of
mood and mind influence it also. The future isn't set in tablets of
stone, its a moveable feast.
