Major Arcana or Minor Arcana
Use of the Deck here at Tarot-Online.net - Less is More
(by Lyn Shea)
Some people have asked why we split the tarot
deck between the various readings, instead of using all 78 cards
for each reading.
For certain readers there are types of cards which
work best for certain objectives or purposes. However, it is a
misnomer to believe that the more cards are on the table the more
comprehensive the reading; the cards are a focal point for the
connection between material and subtle realms and there is sometimes
as much value in narrowing that point of perspective than in widening
it.
For example, the minor arcana reflects (or serves)
the major arcana, much like tiers of the same cake, or ranks within
an army. The major arcana contains the main archetypal influences
at work within life and these will reflect in given problems/ issues/
questions. The minor arcana shows how much of it is in your direct
control and the court cards depict the sort of people and attitudes
involved.
Using more than the chosen cards for each of our
spreads is not necessary (for me) and would actually impair my
ability to create a universally useful program of this kind.
I cover this issue and several other common misunderstandings/frequently-asked-questions
about tarot readings and the tarot cards in my article "Tarot Reading Misunderstandings and Frequently Asked Questions"
